2018

17 girls from Cape Town joined us for a weekend of dance. By Sunday, we had created a showcase with pieces that the dancers had learned. In the end, scholarships were granted to 3 of the participants to continue dancing after the program. Watch this space to hear from the girls in august 2019.

Students were taught by Becky Ahamad, Jamal Ahamad and Ashlynn Erasmus.

Becky is mainly a self-taught dancer. She took classes in Tap and Jazz at a young age, but soon discovered her love for Hip Hop over the years. Since September 2011 Becky has worked at Berkshire Dance Theatre as a Hip Hop instructor and currently as the Co-Director.

During his youth, Jamal was always around music and music lovers and was picked on for having bad music taste and no rhythm. After earning his undergrad degree, Jamal did not want to give up dancing and started sharing his passion with the BDT community. Since then, he has taught at several different studios and even co-founded dysFUNKcrew alongside other MCLA Dance Company alumni.

Ashlynn Erasmus is a Hip Hop and Street dancer from Cape Town, South Africa. She has been dancing since she can remember and has performed with both local and international artists. She was also cast as an actress and core dancer in the movie 'Honey 3 - Dare to Dance.'

IDE awarded scholarships to five young women. These scholarships fund a year of dance education, allowing the students to continue pursuing their passions free of charge to their families.
